23 among us tips. From basic tips for beginners to lesser known tricks
Recently I’ve been seeing a huge amount of players in among us who are simply braindead. Most of those are children under the age of 14 so there’s not much I can do about this, but I want to fight back by sharing some of the things I’ve learned while playing.

  1. Do not do visual tasks unless someone is watching you. It’s a free get out of jail card and if you have people watch you then you don’t have to worry about people voting for you.
  2. If visual tasks are off, two people with the medscan task can still clear eachother. While someone is scanning, no one else can scan. If one person scans, then someone else with the task tries to scan it will say the other person is scanning, which shows they are innocent.
  3. Do not vote on 7 people when there are 2 imposters unless you are 100% sure. If you get it wrong then the imposters can double kill and instantly win.
  4. Do not vote on 4 people when there is 1 imposter. If you get it wrong the imposter can sabotage and kill someone, instantly winning.
  5. Pay attention to the tasks people stand at. If someone stands next to the electrical diversion task and you ask them what task they did and they say wires, you know they’re lying. This also works for when people stand next to stuff for too long or not for long enough, electrical diversion tasks and part 1 of garbage disposal should take 1-2 secs MAX. Same thing goes with people doing downloads too quickly. Also if someone stands at part 1 of the garbage task, and they later say they don’t have the garbage task in storage, that means they faked the part 1 and they’re the imposter
  6. Try to remember the directions people go or what colours are together. If you see green and black in admin, then 40 seconds later someone reports black dead in admin, it’s very likely that it’s green.
  7. Sabotages. Personally, I find that 9/10 times you want to either sabotage lights or oxygen. Oxygen is just the same as reactor but it splits people up more, and lights is superior in every way to comms aside from the fact cameras work - which doesn’t matter because a good strategy if the person on cams doesn’t leave is to turn lights off, most other people will go to lights, you can kill the person on cams as they will be alone. Reactor can be useful in a few edge cases where you want people to go to the left side of the map, and comms can also be useful for getting people to the bottom right of the map and disabling lights and admin table, but generally speaking you want to focus on sabotaging lights and oxygen
  8. Cameras. In some hallways you can see when the cameras are active by checking to see if there is a blinking red light. if someone is chasing you, lead them to a hallway with a camera, if they kill you the person on the camera will see who killed you.
  9. Don’t be worried to die to kill an imposter. Saying stuff like “kill me if I lie, I saw green kill so vote green, if I lie kill me after”. Same thing goes if you’re going to be voted but know who it is, say “when you see I’m innocent, vote for green I saw him kill someone”
  10. You should always vote on 3 people if there is 1 imposter or 5/6 people if there is two. Even if it’s a random guess, imposters can easily double kill and get a free win.
  11. Staying together. When there are 4-5 people left, you should stay with everyone else. As an imposter their only choices are oxygen or lights, both of which can be easily countered if people pay attention and if for oxygen a confirmed innocent goes to one side and everyone else goes to the other.
  12. Common tasks. On the first map, there are two possible common tasks which are wires and admin card swipe. If you’re innocent and you have one (or both) of those tasks and someone else says they doesn’t, that means they’re lying because everyone in the lobby has the same common tasks.
  13. When you see someone do a visual task, on the next voting session tell everyone they did it, and if you have a visual task ask everyone to come watch you do it.
  14. Settings. Everyone has their own personal favourite settings, but one thing I know for a fact is that when the kill cooldown is below 25 seconds and player speed is higher than one, it is INCREDIBLY easy for imposters who know what they’re doing to win. The high player speed lets them run from bodies and not get caught and the low kill cooldown means it can be easy to get multiple kills in one round. Also, in lobbies that use chat rather than voice, the combined discussion time and voting time should be above 75 seconds. Any lower and it is sometimes hard to get enough time to discuss. Discussion time is useful, I find that 30 seconds discussion and 45+ voting time is the best, as it prevents bad players (children) from blindly voting the second the meeting starts.
  15. Cheating. If you cheat by having a friend tell you who killed them when they are killed, you’re ruining the game. Do not do that, and if you see anyone doing it call them out and have people vote to kick them.
  16. As an imposter, try to stick with your imposter buddy and defend him at least a little in meetings. Don’t fully defend him no matter what, as people will vote you for defending an imposter. Sticking with them also gives them an alibi and allows for double kills.
  17. Door sabotages. As an imposter, you can use door sabotages to separate people and escape from bodies, for example if you kill someone in storage you can run to shields, lock the doors in storage and you will have time to run away from the body.
  18. Keep track of people you run past. You never know if you might find a body, so knowing who ran past you away from a body is incredibly important
  19. Choosing who to kill. As an imposter, you should prioritise killing players who are good at the game and also confirmed innocents who have been cleared with visual tasks.
  20. Emergency meetings. Depending on how many meetings you get, meetings are either super important to not waste or you should just avoid pressing it to not annoy other people. Good reasons to start an emergency meeting are things like if you see someone vent, if you see someone 100% fake a task. When you only have 1 meeting, you should not waste it on stuff like telling everyone you’re done with tasks.
  21. Do not start the game unless there are at least 8-10 people. In my experience (especially in public lobbies) starting with 4-8 people sucks. You always have a few people disconnect or leave for no reason, so the game very quickly has very few people and that makes it incredibly easy for imposters to win and it’s just not fun.
  22. Don’t be toxic. A basic rule of every game as well as real life , just don’t be a dickhead. I understand sometimes you can get annoyed by stupid stuff that’s happening, I get like that a bit too, but don’t be a dick and tell people that they’re r****** and should commit toaster bath
  23. Calling out someone as your buddy when imposter. When you’re revealed as imposter, you should make a statement like “I messed up, sorry (insert name of anyone other than your imposter buddy) you should probably just give up so we can start a new round” or say “I was with (colour who isn’t imposter) he can vouch for me I promise it’s not me he can vouch” - and get mad if they don’t vouch for you. most people won’t believe it, but some people will, so it’s worth doing it anyway. (If you’re in a group you know won’t believe it, you could do this to your imposter buddy to make them think you’re trying to do what I described above, so they will trust your imposter buddy more)
I doubt anyone has read this far, but what do all of you think about these tips? Any you disagree with? Any you want to add? I’m happy to talk with people in the comments about it!

Hello everyone.
I have been doing some tests lately - streaming h.264 over the network using udp.
My goal was to achieve low latency, decent quality and low bitrate stream from one pc to another over the network. For video content I just used live camera footage and the bitrate I was aiming for was [email protected]. I was mostly focusing on just video stream, adding audio might increase the latency a bit - feel free to experiment.
I want to share my experience with you guys.
I am using: CPU: Ryzen 3700X, videocard: NVIDIA RTX2080 Super
Elgato Camlink 4k + mirrorless camera
ffmpeg version git-2020-06-28-4cfcfb3 Copyright (c) 2000-2020 the FFmpeg developers
OBS STUDIO 25.0.8(64 bit)
Most of the testing I did locally on this machine and also between my other PC in home, connected via Gigabit LAN. So never really tried pushing the stream over longer distance and affected by packet loss.. I am not sure how it will behave then.
So first of all, as you might know, OBS heavily relies on ffmpeg. That's why to begin with, I started experimenting with ffmpeg, ffprobe, ffplay tools.
I tried different containers, but it seems that only mpegts is working good for h.264. The mpeg2video container also supports h.264, but only ffplay plays the stream properly with low latency. OBS demuxer adds huge latency to such stream and VLC wouldn't even play it.
I tried using VLC, as OBS also support VLC libraries, but it turns out that VLC has some demuxing latencies for mpegts. Using the older container mjpeg is the only one that has low latency in VLC, but it doesn't support h264.. your best bet is using mpeg2video codec inside it. Also keep in mind that when playing mpegts/mjpeg streams in VLC, you have to include ?pkt_size=1316 after the stream URL on the encodemuxing side.
So far so good, mpegts will be the stream container, we just have to tweak some of the encoder settings.
I tried using both libx264 and nvenc_h264(Turing). I was much more satisfied with the nvenc results(@2000Kbps bitrate). Also considering that the buffers were minimal(for lower latency), better preset for x264 was not possible. I decided that Fast is somewhat reasonable to quality/stability. Also please note that tune=zerolatency was a MUST, otherwise the latency skyrockets. This setting itself also degrades the quality.
On the other hand, nvenc_h264 was doing much better. The hardware processing in such scenario is just overpowered. Quality was also great and bandwidth usage when using VBR much lower.
So here are the settings for both encoders.
h264_nvenc CBR(rc=8, cbr_ld_hq - Constant bitrate low delay high quality mode)
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Cam Link 4K" -vcodec h264_nvenc -preset medium -profile high -pix_fmt yuv420p -rc 8 -b 2000k -f mpegts udp://127.0.0.1:5000
OBS Video Encoder Settings:
preset=medium profile=high pix_fmt=yuv420p rc=8 b=2000k
VBR
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Cam Link 4K" -vcodec h264_nvenc -preset medium -profile high -pix_fmt yuv420p -b 2000k -f mpegts udp://127.0.0.1:5000
OBS Video Encoder Settings:
preset=medium profile=high pix_fmt=yuv420p b=2000k
x264 CBR(bufsize=200k, can lower a bit for even lower latency)
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Cam Link 4K" -vcodec libx264 -x264-params nal-hrd=cbr:force-cfr=1:keyint=60 -preset fast -profile:v high -pix_fmt yuv420p -tune zerolatency -b:v 2000k -minrate 2000k -maxrate 2000k -bufsize 200k -f mpegts udp://127.0.0.1:5000
OBS Video Encoder Settings:
x264-params=nal-hrd=cbr:force-cfr=1:keyint=60 preset=fast profile:v=high pix_fmt=yuv420p tune=zerolatency minrate=2000k maxrate=2000k bufsize=200k b=2000k
VBR
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Cam Link 4K" -vcodec libx264 -x264-params keyint=60 -preset fast -profile:v high -pix_fmt yuv420p -tune zerolatency -b:v 2000k -f mpegts udp://127.0.0.1:5000
OBS Video Encoder Settings:
x264-params=keyint=60 preset=fast profile:v=high pix_fmt=yuv420p tune=zerolatency b=2000k
For loading the streams with ffplay, I simply used this line:
ffplay -fflags nobuffer udp://127.0.0.1:5000
Feel free to tweak those settings up to your personal needs. In the examples above the stream url is using localhost - 127.0.0.1, but that address could be any unicast or multicast address.
So in the end, I just wanted to guide you through setting all those things in OBS.
Transmitting side Settings > Output > Recording
Type: Custom Output (FFmpeg)
FFmpeg Output Type: Output to URL
File Path or URL: udp://x.x.x.x:port
Container format: mpegts(Video)
Video bitrate: 2000 Kbps
Keyframe interval(frames): 60
Check: Show all codecs(otherwise it defaults to mpeg2video encoder)
Video encoder: libx264 or nvenc_h264
Video encoder settings: [you can take them from above]
Then simply press "Start Recording" to begin outputting the stream.
Receiving side Add Media Source
Uncheck: Local File
Network buffering: ||--------------- [1MB]
Input: udp://x.x.x.x:port
You could also load the stream with ffplay and add that as Window Capture.
Hope someone find that information useful.
Cheers.

Chapter Seven>
** Note: thanks to Digital332006 and Novatheelf for proofreading and editing.**
Previous [Next]
When we got alarmed by Valerie, I assembled my team, and got them into the provided suits. We listened closely to a five-minute crash course in Human weapons and suit tech,. then assembled in front of the ship and waited for Captain Tom. I was nervous. Attacking Xi'par’s headquarters with such a small force seemed overly dangerous, even with those shields in the suits and the powerful weapons. But I trusted Tom to know what he was doing. With the way he was looking at Ra'sha earlier, I began to think that the only one who should be nervous was Xi'par herself.
A moment later the captain arrived at the ship. Barely-contained rage was visible in his eyes as he jumped out of the troop transport hovercraft that brought him, driven by two of the Matriarch’s personal guards.
“STATUS, Valerie?“ he bellowed as I threw him his personal carbine.
“I have located the tablet devices inside the mountain to the south of the city. Scans indicate that it’s hollowed out for a good part; the storage facility on the north flank of the mountain seems to be just a decoy,” she said.
Uploading a map to all our suit’s holo systems and activating them, she continued.“All of our goods except two are in a room close to the entrance of what I can only describe as a 'villain’s lair,' complete with an escape shuttle inside a concealed hangar on the south side of the mountain.”
A few red and blue blips appeared in the holo. “The two missing tablets are in a room deep inside the mountain, halfway between the north entrance and the south hangar. It's reasonable to assume that Ra'sha and Or'gnu are close by. I’m getting some strange readings from that room that indicate high power consumption like grav plates and shields. It’s probably a prison of some sort.”
She indicated the readings as yellow markings, then a few hundred violet markers appeared. “These are the lifesigns that I can pinpoint. Additionally — here, here and here — I think there are some heavy gun emplacements, according to the power scans.”
Additional markers appeared.
I addressed Tom directly. “The intel Or'gnu provided suggests that those are interrogation or torture facilities; the actual holding cells are on the three levels below those. The intel also suggests that this could be the place where our families are being held hostage.”
Tom looked at the map for a second, making a snap decision. “Can you access the comms network in that lair? And how long will it take to fly there, drop us off, and then fly around the mountain to block the hangar, Valerie?”
“Yes, Boss. Roughly four minutes, Boss.” she replied.
“OK. Change of plans. We’ll go back into the ship and do a combat drop at the main entrance. Then you will fly around to the other side, hover there, and deploy all weapons and train them on the concealed hatch. Make it very visible. Now connect me to all speakers and video screens in Xi'par’s lair.”
“She is calling us at this very moment!” Valerie answered.
“Then make it so that everyone in the facility can see and hear the call. Answer it, route the video out here, and make me appear alone. I don't want the Sergeant’s crew to be in the picture.”
“Done.” Valerie said as a 2D holo flickered to life.
Xi'par stood in a dimly lit room, with a pistol trained at what looked like Ra'sha and Or'gnu. They were both in some kind of steel chair and bound with metal straps, looking visibly worse for wear. They had no clothes and lots of small cuts and bruises. Both were bleeding badly. Ra'sha’s whole body was connected to at least a dozen electrodes. She seemed to have lost consciousness from the obvious torture she had to endure. Tom froze for a second; his face seemed to petrify, and his eyes suddenly looked like their gaze could freeze anything they touch.
“Human, you will surrender your vessel to me and hand yourself over to my torturers if you want to see your XO alive. You have cost me quite a sum of money, so I will take the ship and any goods you have left as payment. If you are very lucky, I will let you live as my personal toy after a severe punishment for foiling my plans and putting me in prison for a day.” she said.
The captain stood there. Dead calm. He let her finish her threat. Then he smiled, but that smile had no friendliness in it — it was predatory and telling of deadly violence in the future. It was a smile that reached past her picture to the sidelines to make me, a trained soldier, shiver.
“On the contrary, Xi'par,” he said. “You have two options: in four minutes I want you to free ALL hostages you may have with no further harm done, order all your troops to surrender, and come out the main entrance unarmed. Come out yourself, cuffed and ready to go to prison.”
If possible, his eyes went even darker. “Option two: anyone still inside the mountain who is armed when I arrive will be shot on sight. Should either Ra'sha or Or'gnu have permanent damage or be dead you have forfeited your life already, Xi'par.” He made a gesture around his neck and Valerie cut the feed.
“Now run, we have to be there in four minutes!” He urged us, Valerie already firing up the thrusters.
Four minutes later we did what he called a 'hot drop', Valerie opened the cargo doors hovering 20 meters in front and above the lairs entrance and after activating the grav plates in our suits, we jumped out in formation. He said that this is a normal human combat maneuver. I didn't dare to ask what his people would call a 'desperate' tactic then.
Valerie was already halfway around the mountain before we touched the ground, ready and in attack formation with Tom at the point. Not a single soldier or hostage were outside the big steel gates into the mountain.
Tom touched his comms. “Valerie, patch me through to the whole mountain again.”
“I see you have chosen death. Last warning to all soldiers inside the fortress: We will try to not kill anyone that is laying flat on the ground unarmed with her hands behind their head, but offer no guarantee as of now.” he continued.
As an answer to his speech, both heavy plasma turrets at the left and right of the gate began to fire on him. He ignored his flashing shield and trained his carbine on the big hunk of ship hull that was forged into the main doors. He fired one plasma round.
The doors vanished into superheated metal vapor and shrapnel, the turrets suffering the same fate.
I looked at my own carbine. THIS was what humans call a 'ceremonial' weapon? What were their actual assault weapons like? I now understood why he told us that we should use the stun function whenever possible, the recoil dampened projectile function where that doesn't work and ask him before ever attempting to use the plasma mode. He wasn't joking when he said that the plasma mode was armor piercing. One could down a big cargo ship, even a small military fighter with that weapon without problems!
Focusing on the task at hand my team and me charged into the main hall after the captain, taking out the few soldiers he left over by stunning them whenever possible. Tom gestured us to move in pairs into the side tunnels and clear the rooms there and so we did. The shields of our suits caught countless plasma shots, while my girls tried to keep casualties down. I remembered Tom telling us to be as merciful as possible because “They may be our enemies at the moment, but most are pressed into service like you were, it would be cruel to kill them for protecting their loved ones!”
Meanwhile Tom pushed ahead. He was like a force of nature, shooting left and right and center with a precision and speed rivaling the best targeting computers we had, switching to projectiles when he encountered armored resistance, kicking doors in as if they were made of thin plastic and not steel. It looked like he was actually dancing around our foes, playing with them, killing only when he had no choice.
He even managed to hold fire when he saw a few soldiers that were laying on the ground with their hands on their head like he ordered. He held his advance for a moment. “Everyone that surrendered: go out the main door and await further orders. There will be a black quadruped predator rounding you up, and guarding you. Don’t be scared, she will not harm you unless you try to stab us in the back. Sergeant, let them filter thru unharmed. Understood?”
“YES!” I yelled back. “You heard the man, guide them outside unharmed if possible!” I yelled at my team.
When the surrendering girls got up to do as they were told, one of Xi'pars officers aimed at their backs trying to execute them. Tom moved like a whirlwind between the officer and them. “Oh no, you don't!” he exclaimed, taking the plasma shots while running up to the officer and slapping her with his hand, using enough force that she flew across the hallway, sliding down the far wall into a heap of broken bones.
“Anyone that wants to surrender and is afraid of his superiors to do so, be aware that we will deal with them accordingly. If you can manage, disarm them and follow the others out. If you feel you can't, just try to keep a low profile and shoot only when they look at you. I will try to only stun the ones that seem to be unwilling. Sorry about the pain that will cause, I can't do better at the moment.” Tom yelled at the girls that were still shooting at him.
If possible, he was dancing even more after that, using his weapon less and less in projectile mode. He even opted to take shots for a group of four armored soldiers with his body and shield when they threw away their weapons and dropped to the ground, so that they wouldn't get killed by their own superiors.
In a very short time we cleaned out the rest of the mountain, leaving only the torture/detainment area to Xi'par and her few followers and guards left.
When we arrived at the reinforced doors to the interrogation area the second set of gun emplacements didn't even have time to fire on him. They vaporized milliseconds after the door into nothingness. He had dialed down the plasma output though, or we would have been hit with a shockwave of vaporized metal. Still running he motioned us to go down into the prison cells and yelled at me: “Go send your crew to search for your families, then follow me. We two can handle the rest alone.”
Just as I was finished ordering my team to do exactly that the speakers in the hallway that still worked sprang to life. “Are you crazy? I will kill Ra'sha if you don't stop immediately” Xi'par screamed, in a voice clearly close to being crazy .
Tom moved on with the same precision and speed as before, shouting into the air.”You can. But I wouldn't do that if I were you. Should I find Ra'sha dead you will die in that same chair. And it will take days. Days of pure agony. I will resurrect you every time your body gives out until you beg me to kill you. And them some more. This is not a threat. It is a promise should my XO die. Your choice.”
His voice was cold as ice and filled with a hatred I would have deemed not possible yesterday. How did he manage to be so full of hatred against Xi'par and be so lenient against her soldiers at the same time? I didn't know, but I was oddly glad that he did. I only met him a few days ago and I already came to the conclusion that I liked his attitude and restraint in face of adversity. Not only because my whole team would be dead if he were different but also because it was giving me hope that such a powerful being, a predator nonetheless could be so friendly despite being attacked.
We ran to the end of the hallway and he kicked the massive metal door in that blocked the access to the interrogation room where the three of them were according to Valeries scans.
Xipar stood behind Ra'shas chair, her weapon on her victim's temple. “STOP! Drop your weapons and deactivate your shields or she dies! BOTH of you!”
Tom stopped dead in his tracks and dropped his weapon. As did I. He then deactivated his shield. Xi'par grinned with an insane expression. “NOW YOU DIE, VERMIN!” She screamed and aimed at his face and pulled the trigger on her plasma pistol.
Tom just held up his hand and stopped the shot with his palm. Suddenly his predatory grin was back. “That was your last mistake, idiot.” He said. X'pars eyes grew wide.
I felt a wash of air passing me and saw him leaping into the air. In one swift motion he took the gun out of her hand while still in the air, grabbing her neck with the other arm in a headlock and simplz pressed until I heard her spine break. He dropped her dead body to the floor and ran around the torture chair, checking for Ra'shas pulse.
Then, ripping the metal binding off the chair, He then took her into her arms very carefully and said to me in a soft voice with all the love and care in the universe in it:” Do you think you and your team can take care of the rest? She is barely alive. I have to bring her into Valeries med bay immediately.”
I nodded wordlessly while I freed Or'gnu of her restraints. The Captain moved over with Ra'sha still in his arms. “Or'gnu, are you well enough to follow me or do you want to go with the Sergeant?”
“I will try to follow you, my injuries are mostly superficial albeit painful.” she answered hesitantly.
Tom tapped his comms. “Valerie, break off the blockade, come back to the main doors and land. I don't care how you make room, I just want you to be directly at the entrance with an open ramp so I can bring Ra'sha directly to your infirmary. She is unconscious, has a very weak pulse and is badly bleeding.”
“On my way, don't worry, I will land no matter the damage to me or the place!” It came back over the comlink.
He ran out of the room down the hallway, Or'gnu in tow. I followed out after picking up both our guns but turned to the stairways down into the holding area when I had an idea. I hit the comms button. “Valerie? Do you by any chance have video of what just happened? If so, can you play it throughout the hideouts screens? I may help convince the remaining troops to surrender peacefully to see him stopping a plasma shot with his hand.”
“Yes, I have video from the surveillance cam Xi'par used to threaten us. Will do now. I will also edit the cams on the outside into it, seeing that group of girls herded by Sial but still unharmed otherwise may help, too.” Valerie replied over the comms.
When I exited the staircase into the holding area I was greeted by an unreal scene. All cells were open, a dozen of Xi'pars guards with their hands on their heads standing in a single cell guarded by two of my girls, a few more guards dead on the floor of the hallway. And close to a hundred Rincor men and children running about, a few clinging to some of my troops legs, others being confused but happy to be set free.
Then I heard someone scream my name and turning around I saw my husband and child running at me. I knelt down and opened my arms after slinging the carbine on my back.
Hugging them tightly for a moment I thanked every deity that may exist to have them back unharmed. I looked at my daughter with tears of joy in my eyes. “You have grown so much, you're almost as tall as your father.” I said to her.
Standing up I cleared my throat. “As glad as I am sure you all are that this nightmare has ended we still have a job to do.” I addressed the others of my team.
“You two, get the wardens that are still alive gathered up and walking towards the main entrance.” I said to the two that watched the cell with the surrendered wardens. “The rest of the team: herd the prisoners out behind them. I will take rear guard.”
When our group emerged from the main entrance we saw Valerie had crushed her landing gear through the storage buildings, sitting smack dab in front of the entrance with her cargo scoop open and a couple of Toms crew standing left and right with their carbines at attention. The other crew of Xi'pars that surrendered were huddled in the corner looking frightened while Sial paced a perimeter around them occasionally hissing but keeping her distance. I ordered our group of 12 wardens to join them when Valerie called me over the comms.
“We have a slight problem here. Tom is busy healing Ra'sha in the med bay and I have a whole platoon of police force at my bow, demanding to know what happened here. I already called the Matriarchs office but the police commander here says that she can't accept orders from the Matriarch directly and that the correct political channels to go thru will likely take days.” she said.
“And that is a problem why?” I asked.
“The commander is threatening to seize me and put my crew into custody for 'attacking a peaceful trader'. She is either not aware or doesn't want to acknowledge that I am able to destroy not only her force but also the whole city within minutes apart from the fact that they have no way to go through my shields. I would rather not put that to the test though, for obvious reasons of not wanting to kill innocents and souring our relation with the Matriarch.”
“I understand. Tell her that your security officer will soon talk with her.” I told Valerie while sprinting up the cargo scoop ramp. Turning back to my team I called out: “Get the hostages into the cargo hold and provide them with any comfort we can muster.”
When reaching the bow landing gear and ramp I slowed down and tried to appear like I was leisurely strolling down the ramp. “Let the Commander and about 10 of her police officers into the shield, Valerie.” I said, loud enough for them to hear.
The Ship dutifully opened a segment of the shield in front of the landing strut and closed it abruptly once the number of people were in.
“Who do you think you are? I demand to have full access to the ship to seize it on the authority of the Rincor central police force!” The commander immediately complained.
I did something I learned from Tom. I smiled wordlessly, showing all my teeth to the commander. Waiting for her to come up close to me.
“Wait a moment. I know you. You are one of Xi'pars -er.. I mean the innocent traders- assault team leaders!” she said when she came close enough to recognize me.
“I was. Until we freed the hostages today that she held to blackmail us. Xi'par is dead. Our Captain broke her neck bare handed in defense of one of our crew members. So are 2/3 of her troops, although a lot of them may be only stunned. We have about 60 of her troops back there that have surrendered. If you want to jail someone I would suggest you start with them, then comb thru the remains of Xi'pars hideout and find any other remaining still alive troops.” I told her without so much as a friendly look.
Before she could interject I added:”I am aware that she paid off a large amount of the police. So if you still think you owe her something, consider that it took 12 of us to raid this place with no losses in less than 20 minutes. You can either take your chances with the new order of things or join the dead troops. For all I care it would be beneficial to the city to have a few less corrupt police officers anyway.”
The Commander shrank visibly. It took her a moment to produce a stuttering and defeated reply:”I...i see. Maybe it's for the best then that we gather up any perpetrators and not try to anger your captain any more.”
I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder. “That would be a good idea. Especially with me having Union diplomatic status. Just think what would happen should I mention that I had to fight my way through a police force of a member Species to get my XO back. One request though. The ones that surrendered to me are to be handled with utmost courtesy and wherever permitted by your laws go free from any accusations. According to my species laws they did the right thing not following unlawful orders, so I want them to not suffer for that decision. IS. THAT. CLEAR?” Tom switched from being a jovial Captain talking to a seemingly equal to a fierce drill officer shouting at a recruit with the last three words.
The commander looked like she had just soiled herself. “Vvvvery clear, sir. I understand. We will clean the place and I will report to my superiors that they have no longer any obligation to Xi'par. May I leave now to do my duty, sir?”
Tom smiled again, this time friendly. “Of course. Be aware that we will launch shortly and fly back to our designated landing pad, so keep your distance from the buildings that are compromised, They may crumble when the ship pulls the landing gear out of them.” Then, to the ship: “Valerie, deactivate the shields and stow weapon systems. The police are here to help.”
He turned around and left into the ship with me following closely.
As soon as the ramp airlock closed he turned around. “Thank you for all you did today. You and your crew were a great help. Ra'sha and Or'gnu are already taken care of, they will have no visible scars from the ordeal by tomorrow. Your men and kids are in hangar bay three, taken care of by your people and my crew as well. So you can relax, everything went well, even more than anticipated.”
“Thank you, sir.” I replied. “But honestly: We didn't do much. Without you charging in there like a tornado and giving us these incredible suits and weapons it would have been in vain. Also I still don't know why you trusted us to not stab you in the back the second we saw a chance. Not that I am complaining, I just don't understand it.”
Tom smiled warmly at me. “I trusted you the moment I was made aware that you fought to protect your family. You are good gals, pressed into service for a bad woman by blackmail. That's why I promised you to help you get your families out. That's also why I was sure you wouldn't backstab me. By the way: You seemed to have learned a thing or two. How you dealt with that police commander was marvelous to see.”
Not knowing what else to say with all that unfamiliar feelings coursing through me I apologized:”Ah, about that. I am sorry for impersonating your security officer. I thought it to be the fastest way to deal with the police.”
The Captain smiled again.”No problem with that. As a matter of fact I was thinking about offering that position to you anyway. So if you still want to have it now that your family is safe again I would be glad to have you as my SSO. “
Uncomfortably I answered:”I have to decline, sir. I haven't seen my family in ages. I want to spend time with them to make up for the time they were held hostage.”
Tom looked at me for a moment. “Valerie? How long would it take to make storage hangar one into a Crew deck for about a dozen families?”
“About a day, boss. I like that idea. Having children aboard would be fun!” Valerie answered with amusement in her voice.
Tom grinned. “Would it change your answer if you could have your family on board? Of course I would pay you a decent salary, and your family would live aboard for free, so there is no chance to fall from one kind of slavery into another.”
I was totally overwhelmed. “Sir, I would like that very much, but I have to ask my family if they are good with living on an alien ship. If they are OK with it I will gladly accept.”
Tom nodded. “Very well, that's more than reasonable. Let's go down to hangar three then, to tell your crew and family the news. Valerie, as soon as Sial is back aboard and the police has cleared from under you, please fly yourself back to the designated landing pad.”

2020.09.26 16:02 AostheGreat Backup Goalies - Part 4: Let's talk about Anton Khudobin

Anton Khudobin made his NHL debut in 2009/10, playing six games for the Wild over his first two years in the NHL before moving to Boston in a small trade. He only played one game in 2011/12, but had his coming out party the next year, showing off his potential as a full time back up. In 14 games, he put up really solid numbers in a lockout shortened 2013 season the Bruins. He played well enough that the Hurricanes decided to pick him up in the offseason as GMJR made a rare prudent move, signing him to a modest one-year contract.
Not only did Khudobin play to his contract in 2013/14, he exceeded it by a country mile and a half. It came at an opportune time for player and team. Cam Ward had another injury filled season after the disaster of the lockout shortened campaign the year prior. Khudobin stepped up in a big way to fill that hole. He starts 34 games and puts up stellar numbers. It was enough for Khudobin to sign a two year extension worth two-and-a-quarter million per year. Managment and fanbase alike were in love, and they expected big things out of Dobby in 2014/15. But no. Dobby regressed hard and Cam stepped up his play. Khudobin was shipped out in the 2015 off season in a one-for-one for James Wisniewski, who ended up becoming a tragic figure for the Hurricanes, suffering a horrible injury after less than a minute on the ice in a Hurricanes uniform. But the Hurricanes had moved on from Khudobin and began the Eddie Lack saga as they shifted from looking for a backup to eventually looking for a replacement.
Now, that whole shift in the team's outlook on goalies started with Anton Khudobin. It is possible that he played well enough and he was well-liked enough that he single handedly shifted the entire mindset of an NHL team. But it's also possible that he was just the first in that era of Cam Ward's tenure, and his excellent play in 2013/14 was just a coincidence. Management was still sitting on Peters and they were still concerned about Cam Ward's injuries as he got older. In my personal opinion, I don't think he was the one specific reason that the Hurricanes changed strategies. There may have been an expectation that Peters would still replace Cam, especially with the aforementioned signs of wear and tear, but Anton Khudobin was at very least a signal flare that management was going to put their full weight behind fixing the team's goaltending situation. Now, given that the previous Part of this write up is titled "Cam's Graveyard", I think it's safe to say that the Hurricanes were not exactly successful in this regard, but Anton Khudobin was definitely a big part of this shift, and the first headstone to be added.
But then...something happened.
It would have been a bit hard to notice at first, as Khudobin only played in 25 games over the next two seasons, splitting time between the Ducks (who the Hurricanes traded him to) and his second stint with the Bruins (where he returned via a two-year contract in free agency). In those 25 games, he didn't put up impressive stats or gain a reputation as a clutch relief option, he was just...there. He was average to below average. Then in a contract year he stepped back up and managed solid enough numbers for the Dallas starts to sign him to yet another two-year deal in 2018. He then proceeded to become possibly the best backup goalie in the NHL over the next two years behind a Ben Bishop made of green stained glass. His numbers were reminiscent of his first year in Carolina in 2018/19, and then, this year that is not yet past for him, he got even better.
He has been so good that he took a Dallas team that had fallen short in positions of success multiple times over the previous years and helped carry them to this year's Stanley Cup Final with a performance for the ages, making him the only goalie that I am aware of to get buried in Cam Ward's Graveyard and then dig his way out of it. Just for doing that, he made me write this whole thing. He is the reason that I started looking up old Hurricanes' backups. I want to see him win the Conn Smythe. Partially because I want this write up to actually do something, but mostly because I love his story.
But you probably already know all of this, as you've probably been keeping an eye on him through the playoffs and are now getting a chance to see Dobby play on a regular basis.
Because you're watching the Final right?
Right?
No one would be stupid enough to just not watch the most high-stakes hockey of the season right? To just miss the first two games entirely, I mean only an idiot would do that and not support the only person to ever claw his way out of Cam Ward's Graveyard.
....
I'm sorry Dobby.
So what the hell does all this mean for the Hurricanes and their story? Is there a message here that the best goalies always come from unexpected places? Is this one long freeNed shitpost?
Actually...no. It's quite the opposite.
One of the reasons that I have been hesitant about Nedeljkovic is because I remember people saying a lot of the same things about Justin Peters. How he was young, how he tore up the minors, how he should be getting his shot in the big time any day now.
As for the idea that the best goalies come from unexpected places? No. Kevin Weekes was good before he got to the Hurricanes. I didn't talk about them because they were starters in their time here, but Arturs Irbe and Petr Mrazek were good before they got to the Hurricanes. Cam Ward, as much of a miracle as his 2006 run was, he was still a first round draft pick. He was expected to be good.
Obviously many of these goalies did come from unexpected places, and yes, it is significant that so many goalies throughout the Hurricanes' history came from nowhere or close to it and eventually brought this team success. But data is not the plural form of anecdote. I have no idea how to properly scout goaltending talent or nurture and develop prospects into superstars. If I knew how to do that, I would be out doing it. Don't get me wrong, I would love to eat some humble pie and see Nedeljkovic turn into a long-term option in net or watch some fifth round pick break all of Cam Ward's records. Obviously because it would mean that the Hurricanes would be good, but also because those would be great stories.
No, the lesson here is not some kind of dogma or guiding principle of hockey management. It's that the Hurricanes are something of the NHL's island of misfit toys when it comes to goalies. Obviously you have the two duos of insanity of Irbe/Weekes and PetMac but then you have all of these cast offs and unwanteds like Dan Ellis, Justin Peters, and the rest of the Graveyard. The lesson is that if a goalie makes a trip down to Carolina, it's going to be interesting one way or another, so pay attention.
In short,
Curtis McElhinney and Kevin Weekes made two of the best saves in franchise history on respective miracle playoff runs.
Cam Ward was thrown into the fire at 22 years of age and was absolutely amazing. So much so that he became the superstar goalie that the team leaned on for years and years.
However, the team could never find a reliable backup for him, and by the time they realized that they needed to replace him, it was too late.
Then, one of the goalies that was lost in the shuffle of Cam Ward's backups made a resurgence a couple of years later and has found success in Dallas.
If Carolina acquires a goalie, watch him, because it's bound to be interesting.

Stack of the Week
Dak Prescott ($7,200) and Amari Cooper ($6,500): Seattle's given up just under 850 passing yards over their first two games of the season, winning on the back of Russell Wilson ($7,300) and Chris Carson ($6,600). Based on how porous the Seahawks' secondary has looked thus far, I'm high on Dak Prescott as he takes full advantage of his weapons around him, including CeeDee Lamb ($5,400) and Dalton Schultz ($4,500). Cooper is likely the safest Cowboy receiver but it's hard not to like Lamb in this spot considering his playmaking ability.
TOP VALUE OPTIONS (Under $6,000 for QB, under $5,500 for skill positions, under $3,500 for D/ST)
QB
Ryan Tannehill ($5,900) @ MIN: The Vikings secondary as a whole hasn't looked good thus far, but part of the reason why was the huge Week 1 game by Aaron Rodgers, as he connected with Davante Adams early and often. While the Titans will certainly play through Derrick Henry ($7,800), we have to consider that the bruising back hasn't hit paydirt yet and Tannehill has been incredibly efficient with a QB rating over 120 and a 6:0 TD:INT ratio. Minnesota's defense overall this season has been vulnerable, but I expect somewhat of a rebound from Kirk Cousins ($5,500) and the Vikings' offense. To that end, I think this game could wind up being a back-and-forth affair, which lines up Tannehill well, even if A.J. Brown ($6,000, knee) were to miss a second straight game.
Mitchell Trubisky ($5,700) @ ATL: Uh, it's the Falcons' defense - the only secondary worse than Seattle's right now, with the former giving up 372 passing YPG (to be fair, they played the two priciest QBs on this slate back-to-back). While Trubisky's stats haven't been eye-popping so far (38/64, 432 yds, 5:2 TD/INT ratio), Atlanta's the type of team he could find himself throwing for 300+ yards against. Even with Allen Robinson II ($6,200) likely to garner the bulk of defensive attention, there's a lot of upside when the matchup is this inviting.
Justin Herbert ($5,900) vs. CAR: Herbert has promise against a team missing its top offensive weapon in Christian McCaffrey (high ankle sprain) for 4-6 weeks. Though Austin Ekeler ($6,800) and Joshua Kelley ($5,000) could control this game on the ground, I believe Herbert will utilize his running backs more as options out of the backfield than Tyrod Taylor (punctured lung) did in Week 1. Keenan Allen ($6,100) and Hunter Henry ($4,800) will be targeted early and often in an attempt to build a lead, and we saw that Herbert isn't afraid to run it in himself if the opportunity arises. Herbert's not a bad option under $6,000 and allows you to put in some studs at other positions.
RB
Darrell Henderson Jr. ($5,400) @ BUF: Buffalo is fairly stout up front, but volume alone should warrant a look Henderson's way. Cam Akers (ribs) has been ruled out, and Malcolm Brown ($5,200) is not on the injury report but is recovering from a broken left pinky which could impact his work in the receiving game somewhat. Henderson's not a lock by any means, but worth slotting in to a lineup here and there based on his outlook.
Mike Davis ($5,100) @ LAC: Another volume-based option, Davis saw a lot of looks in the pass attack when Christian McCaffrey went down with a high ankle sprain. With CMC out 4-6 weeks, Davis will have be utilized a lot to keep the Chargers' front honest, and with the Chargers' secondary a stingy opponent for QB Teddy Bridgewater ($5,200), look for Davis to see some carries - which could translate to passes out of the backfield assuming Carolina falls behind.
Joshua Kelley ($5,000) vs. CAR: The Panthers are allowing the most DKP to the RB position thus far, which is a great outlook for Kelley and Austin Ekeler ($6,800), who should be leaned on a lot to support Herbert. Kelley saw 25 touches against the Chiefs last week - an insane amount for a backup. While his YPC have room for improvement, the volume is welcoming from a fantasy perspective, as well as the fact that Carolina allows almost 130 YPG on the ground, which is in the bottom half of the NFL (19th).
Ronald Jones II ($5,000) @ DEN: Though we'll see Tom Brady ($6,100) likely attempt at least 30 passes in this game against a subpar Broncos' secondary, RoJo should see a fair share of touches in a crowded backfield. Based on volume, RoJo isn't my favorite play, and it's concerning that he saw less than 10 touches in Week 2 vs. Carolina after seeing almost 20 in Week 1's loss to the Saints. RoJo is a bit TD-dependent, but could see enough usage out of the backfield to justify rostering him, especially if the Buccaneers get ahead early over Jeff Driskel ($5,300) and the Broncos' offense.
Jerick McKinnon ($4,900) @ NYG: No Raheem Mostert (knee) or Tevin Coleman (knee) for this one, with the latter likely to miss more time than just this week. McKinnon profiles as more of a scat back, but I imagine Jeff Wilson ($4,000) as well as Kyle Juszcyzk ($4,000) will split carries between the tackles as well as passes out of the backfield from Nick Mullens ($5,100), who will start for Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle). With the Giants allowing 138 YPG on the ground despite being a decent defense overall thus far, McKinnon is lined up for a good game considering his salary.
Devin Singletary ($4,900) vs. LAR: With no Zack Moss (toe), Singletary is yet another option who should see increased volume for his team. The Rams have actually allowed the second-most DKP to RBs (Panthers are 32nd), and allow almost 130 YPG on the ground. While Josh Allen ($6,900) will do his fair share of work with his legs, Singletary should see 15+ touches fairly easily. Considering the skill level of the Rams' secondary led by shutdown CB Jalen Ramsey, I'm thinking the Bills lean on Singletary a bit more than a typical game script.
WR
Diontae Johnson ($5,400) vs. HOU: Though the numbers will tell you the Texans are top-3 against the pass, keep in mind that their rush defense is so bad that it makes the pass defense look better than it is. Clyde-Edwards Helaire bowled over Houston in the opener, and the Ravens combined for 230 yards on the ground in their 33-16 win over the Texans last week, so Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson barely needed to throw. While I was admittedly doubting James Conner ($6,700) last week, he only eclipsed 100 yards against Denver because of a kill-the-clock scamper that let him pile up an extra 40 or so yards to seal the game. Conner will be relevant for sure this week, but look for Ben Roethlisberger ($6,400) to find his receivers early and often. JuJu Smith-Schuster ($6,600) is not on the injury report but went into the week not practicing because of his knee - though it could have been maintenance-related, I feel Johnson is emerging as a solid WR2 option for Big Ben. Chase Claypool ($3,700) also has some promise despite a limited target share due to his big-play ability.
CeeDee Lamb ($5,400) @ SEA: Hasn't found the end zone yet, but has caught 11/15 targets for 165 yards so far as a supposed WR3. I personally love Lamb's outlook far more than Michael Gallup's ($5,500) because of the way the first two weeks have gone (Lamb catching 11/15 over Gallup's 5/10), though against Seattle's league-worst secondary (allowing most DKP to WRs, and over 415 YPG through the air), any of the Dallas trio of wideouts could explode on Sunday. All three are worth rostering, with Amari Cooper ($6,500) and Lamb being peppered in most while Gallup sees a few just in case he gets more looks.
Corey Davis ($5,200) @ MIN: No A.J. Brown (knee), and thus far Davis is trying to show that he's a capable receiver after having his fifth-year option declined by the Titans. Catching 10/13 targets for 137 yards and a score so far, Davis saw only 5 targets in the win over the Jaguars despite Brown being out for that game as well - Jonnu Smith ($5,200) and Adam Humphries ($3,900) will also see plenty of work from Tannehill, but Davis is a solid red zone option who should get open often against the inexperienced Vikings cornerbacks.
Russell Gage ($5,100) vs. CHI: I honestly don't understand how Gage is still cheap. $5,100 isn't a steal, per se, but considering Gage's target share as a WR3 (15/21 targets for 160 yards and a TD through 2 games), Gage should be between $5,500-$6,000. Julio Jones ($7,400, hamstring) is considering a true game-time decision on Sunday. He doesn't play, and I consider Gage a near-lock against Chicago. Calvin Ridley ($7,200) has indeed been on a tear so far, but Gage should be opened up for more looks in the absence of Julio Jones. Also look for Hayden Hurst ($4,700) to contribute as well.
Darius Slayton ($4,900) vs. SF: The 49ers are normally a tough defense, but it's missing a lot of pieces right now due to injury. Slayton himself will see increased opportunity with no Sterling Shepard (toe, placed on IR) or Saquon Barkley (ACL tear). The Giants still have Evan Engram ($5,000) and Golden Tate ($4,500) as options to throw to, but Slayton has the most upside as a deep threat option. Slayton's big Week 1 game against the Steelers isn't something of a fluke as we saw him put up solid numbers throughout the second half of 2019.
Larry Fitzgerald ($4,600) vs. DET: The Cardinals will be without Christian Kirk (groin) for this game, which could open up more looks for the veteran Larry Fitz, although Andy Isabella ($3,800) stands to benefit from increased snaps in three-WR formations. With Fitzgerald acting as a short-route safety blanket due to the Cardinals not having an established TE, the veteran is a bit TD-dependent, but did catch all 7 of his targets last week for 50 yards.. his volume alone should warrant him as a play in at least a few lineups.
Hunter Renfrow ($4,300) @ NE: The Raiders won't have Henry Ruggs III (knee-hamstring), so outside of Darren Waller ($5,700, knee, questionable) there aren't many established options for Las Vegas. Someone will be shadowed by star CB Stephon Gilmore, but Renfrow will see most of his work out of the slot, so Bryan Edwards ($3,700) may see Gilmore's coverage more often than not. Renfrow hasn't seen the usage he saw at the end of last year, but with Ruggs out and Waller not 100%, he may be peppered more often this week.
Adam Humphries ($3,900) @ MIN: He's caught 11/13 targets thus far for 95 yards and a score - though Tannehill historically doesn't throw the ball much, it's possible this Tennessee-Minnesota game becomes a bit of a back-and-forth. I doubt Cousins struggles like he did last week, and in that kind of a game script, Humphries stands to benefit just like Davis and Smith do for the Titans. Minnesota allows the second-most DKP to WRs as well as 284 YPG through the air, good for 29th in the league.
Damiere Byrd ($3,000) vs. LV: So Byrd just caught 6/7 passes for 72 yards against the Seahawks, and he's still minimum-price? Sign me up, especially with Julian Edelman ($6,200, knee) and N'Keal Harry ($4,200, ankle) questionable. Both will likely play, but Byrd should start seeing a regular amount of targets in three-WR sets given his speed and past rapport with Cam Newton ($6,700) from their days in Carolina. The Raiders allow 286 YPG through the air (30th in the NFL), but are 15th in DKP allowed to the WR position. Was Byrd's game last week a fluke? Maybe. I'm thinking it'll become a bit more normal than not, and being able to take him at minimum salary is the icing on the cake.
TE
Noah Fant ($5,400) vs. TB: Courtland Sutton (torn ACL) is out for the year, and rookie Jerry Jeudy ($5,000, ribs) will be a game-time decision Sunday. Fant has seen 11 targets and caught 9 of them for 138 yards and 2 TDs thus far - so even if Jeudy plays, Fant is still a big part of the offense. Tampa Bay profiles well against TEs, but they also look better than they are by covering Ian Thomas and Chris Manhertz in last week's win. Fant's volume and red zone appeal make him a solid option, albeit a more expensive one at the TE position.
Jonnu Smith ($5,200) @ MIN: There's a trend here - play virtually anybody against the Vikings right now. Smith's converted 12 targets into 8 catches, 120 yards and 3 TDs so far - so clearly he's a trusted option for Tannehill, especially with no A.J. Brown as evidenced by Smith's two-score game last week. Hard not to go with Smith considering his success thus far.
Dallas Goedert ($4,900) vs. CIN: Goedert's seen 17 targets so far, and Philly's WR injuries have been added to with rookie Jalen Reagor (thumb) out for this game. Goedert has seen three more targets than Zach Ertz ($5,100) so far, and while Ertz is too talented to not get hot at some point, I think Goedert will be poised for solid work for weeks to come. My one worry is that Cincy is so bad against the run (185 YPG allowed on the ground, 30th in the NFL) that Miles Sanders ($6,400) and Boston Scott ($4,400) see the vast majority of usage over any of the passing options. With this in mind, my exposure to Goedert is limited but there.
Hayden Hurst ($4,700) vs. CHI: Should see plenty of usage even if Julio Jones plays, though Jones being out would be a boost for his ownership. Hurst is going up against a decent defense, but they're not-so-good against TEs, giving up the 27th-most DKP to the position. With Matt Ryan ($6,600) passing 90 times thus far, he's bound to throw it a lot against any team, so fire up Hurst with confidence.
Dalton Schultz ($4,500) @ SEA: I doubt he sees 10 targets again like he did against the Falcons, but Schultz has clearly established himself as the TE1 since Blake Jarwin (torn ACL) went on IR. Seattle's actually looked pretty good against the TE position so far, but keep in mind they played New England last week, a team with Ryan Izzo ($3,000) as its most established option. Schultz will likely see his looks, but at the expense of either Cooper, Gallup, Lamb or Ezekiel Elliott ($8,300) out of the backfield.
Austin Hooper ($4,400) vs. WAS: While Hooper hasn't seen many targets so far (just 6, catching 4 for 37 yards) Washington is technically the 2nd-worst team against the position because of Dallas Goedert's line during the Football Team's 27-17 win over the Eagles Week 1 (8-101-1). I think if the Browns want to beat Washington's pass rush, Baker Mayfield ($5,700) will have to hit Hooper often in the flats and down the seams. Hooper's obviously not gotten it together yet with his new team, but he's talented and should get some more looks this week.
Drew Sample ($3,500) @ PHI: With C.J. Uzomah (torn Achilles) out for the year, Sample will be primed for a solid target share from #1 overall pick Joe Burrow ($6,200). Sample saw 9 targets when Uzomah went down the Thursday before last, catching 7 of them for 45 yards. Philly is better against TEs than last week lets on, as not every TE will be Tyler Higbee catching 3 TDs a game. While it'd be nice for Sample to score, his target share makes him a solid value play at just $3,500.
D/ST
Cardinals ($3,300) vs. DET: 7 sacks through 2 weeks as well as 2 fumble recoveries, though this team is looking for its first interception on the year. Matthew Stafford ($6,300) has thrown an interception in each of his first two games, but the Lions could potentially get Kenny Golladay ($6,200, hamstring) back for this game. I like Arizona's chances of reaching Stafford multiple times, since the Detroit signal caller has been downed 5 times through the young season. Arizona may look like a better play than they are after playing an abysmal Washington offense, but they kept the relatively healthy 49ers to 20 points in Week 1.
Patriots ($3,200) vs. LV: Here come the Raiders' fans with, "but the Raiders are 2-0, what are you talking about?" - let me explain. No Ruggs. Josh Jacobs ($7,300, hip) is questionable, as is Waller (knee). The Raiders have a good offense when healthy, but I'll take an established Patriots' defense against a half-healthy Raiders squad coming off a short week. New England has gotten 3 sacks, which isn't outstanding, but they've racked up 4 INTs, including the Devin McCourty pick-six against Russell Wilson ($7,300). Outside of a lost fumble, Derek Carr ($5,400) hasn't turned the ball over this season, but I have an inkling that he'll cough up the football at least once against the Patriots.
Football Team ($3,000) @ CLE: Purely based on sack numbers (11 through two weeks), though Washington has notched 3 INTs and a fumble recovery as well. Baker Mayfield is certainly capable of turning the ball over, so I'm happy firing up Washington to save money at D/ST, knowing their upside.
Giants ($2,700) vs. SF: If the 49ers were completely healthy, I'd say no way - but the Giants defense has been surprisingly decent this year with free agent pickups like James Bradberry and Blake Martinez leading the way. Tallying 6 sacks, 2 INTs and a fumble recovery, the Giants face a beaten down 49ers team missing Garoppolo, Mostert, Coleman and George Kittle (knee). Nick Mullens is not a particularly impressive signal caller, so I'm liking the chances of the Giants being a value option under $3,000.
Who are you looking at for Week 3? Let's talk about different options in the comments below. Best of luck everybody!

2020.09.25 14:59 markednl Welcome to Rocket League, here is everything you need to get started and much more!

Updated version, added some content creators and info at the bottom based on feedback.
We are almost ready for the first Free2Play weekend and I'm excited to see how many players will be playing Rocket League. One thing is for sure: The Rocket League server admins are in for a busy weekend!

I realize that there is a lot of information in this post and it can be a bit overwhelming so I've selected some excellent and 'easy to digest' content to get you started. This way you can get back to playing the game in no time and check back here later.

And if you do nothing else then at least: learn about camera settings

Welcome to Rocket League I want to welcome all new players to the world of Rocket League, a fast paced and physics based car soccer game that is super fun to play at any skill level.
To help you get started I’ve created a comprehensive guide to all things Rocket League. I’ll be going through everything you need from your first goal to becoming the highest rank in this game: Supersonic Legend.
The first step we’ll take is going through the games interface and explaining the basics of the game. Please take note that the latest update was just released and some things might be slightly different or net yet updated on any of the links I added.

For returning players: A quick link to a good post about Epicgames account linking and trouble shooting.
Menu and Options Main menu << See image
  1. This is the main menu, we’ll focus on Garage, Inventory, Play, Training and Options.
  2. Your banner, Avatar, Avatar border, [TEAM TAG], Profile name, XP level and XP progress bar.
  3. Rocket League news ticker with the latest news
  4. Rocket League Friends List and your RocketID (watch this explanation) *slightly outdated

Garage
One of the first things you’ll want to do is choose a car body and make it your own. You can do this in the Garage menu. There are a lot of ways for you to customize your car in Rocket League, there are different bodies, wheels, decals, boost, toppers, trails, antennas and more for you to create your own unique car setup. You can customize, manage and save your presets so you can quickly switch between them.
Choosing your first car body will probably be based on visual preference first, whichever one you think is the coolest looking car. When you get the hang of the basic controls you’ll want to try out other car bodies because they all feel a bit different. There are visual differences in car bodies but there are also 6 different hit boxes where the handling, height and length of the car is different. You’ll find that the difference between the Breakout and the Octane is much bigger than the difference between the Octane and the Road Hog. At the start the car body choice doesn’t matter that much, later on when you get better you’ll see that most players use the Octane or Dominus (or cars with those hit boxes). You can read more about car bodies and hit boxes at the bottom of this post.

Inventory
The more you play, the more items you collect via drops or through other means. With the inventory you can manage them although this is a very basic and still underdeveloped part of Rocket League. You can archive items or tag them as favorite, sort and filter on quality and attributes. Rocket League customization items are a world on it’s own with online fashion advice subreddits and a buzzing trade community. If you want to know more about item quality, certification, colors and the communities around this then read the Rocket League Items and Trading section down below.

Play There are six tabs in the Play menu: Casual, Competitive, Tournaments, Training, Extra modes and Custom games.

Casual
Casual is where you’ll start out in the beginning to play car soccer with friend or other players from your region. It’s all about quick games and having fun, you can join and leave mid-game without penalty but it’s appreciated when you stick around (even if you’re a goal down). Casual doesn’t have ranks but it does try to match you with players that are on the same skill level.
Competitive
Competitive is where it gets serious and you battle other players for MMR points and try to get a higher rank, you’re expected to really try your best to win the game for your team. You get a rank per playlist (1v1, 2v2, 3v3) so you can be Bronze in 1’s but Gold in 2’s. When you start out in Competitive you first have to play 10 placement matches before you see what rank you are. There is a option here called Arena Preferences where you get to like and dislike certain Arenas which makes it less likely or more likely you encounter them. I only use the global settings and don’t bother with a setting per playlist.
Tournaments
Tournaments are where you'll be able to compete in official Psyonix tournaments and win items or sign up for player generated tournaments. Tournaments have been recently revamped and you'll find more info on it from the official news item.
Training
Training is very important in Rocket League, it is the fastest way to improve at the game and get the hang of all the different mechanics. Starting out you’ll want to do the tutorial and the Goalie, Striker and Aerial training. When you’ve got some basic understanding on the core mechanics you can practise hitting the ball around in free-play or try out one of the many community made training packs. Same with the Rocket League items, there is a whole world out there on training, best practises and fastest ways to improve. I’ll expand on those in the FAQ, tutorial and guides section. But before you worry about that first be bad at the game, be bad and laugh your ass off at the hilarious situations you’ll be in with your teammates. Or you know… lose yourself in this list of training packs.
Extra modes
Extra modes are fun variations on Rocket League. Snow day is with a puck instead of a ball, Hoops is like basketball, Dropshot is a mode where you have to break the floor tiles to score and Rumble is like normal Rocket League but with cool power ups. Hoops is the only 2v2 mode, the others are all 3v3. Try them out as they all ask a slightly different set of skills.
Custom games
This is something you will want to check out especially when you are starting out in Rocket League.
  • Exhibition and Season mode Here you can battle it out with and against bots which is a great way to improve your gameplay and measure how you much you are improving. You'll start out 1v1 against an easy bot and gradually increase the difficulty, at a certain point (many hours later) you will be able to 1v4 bots with ease. Be sure to switch it up though because playing against bots is very different than against real players.
  • Private match is where you can join or host a match with friends or when you are in a LAN party
  • Workshop (steam only) has some great community driven content to have fun and improve. There's more information on this in the Mods and Applications section below.
Options Ok time to go and look at all the settings you can play around with. I won’t go into too much detail because Pro players Squishy Muffinz and Scrub Killa have made really great videos on this where they walk you through all the settings and explain what they do so I can’t recommend that enough! Watch Squishy Muffinz and Watch Scrub Killa.

Gameplay
You can leave the most on default but the two of the most changed settings on this screen are
  • Text chat
Specify what kind of text chat you want, all, quickchat, team or off. Sometimes you’ll notice it can be relaxing to actually turn this off for a while.
  • Cross-platform play
My preference is to only play with players on the same platform (pc) because there is a slight difference in the kind of players you encounter. Also you can’t actually communicate with other platforms other than through quick chat so keep that in mind.
  • Game stat display level
Sometimes too much information can be annoying and distract you, find your personal preference.

Camera
Probably the most changed settings in Rocket League. The default settings are just plain wrong so make sure you adjust these to your personal preference as soon as possible. Starting out in Rocket League most players prefer to have sort of a birds eye view, high angle and distance. This setting is great for your awareness in game but do really hurt your precision when hitting the ball. It’s fine to start out with a higher distance and angle though but you’ll soon want to edge more towards the ‘pro settings’. I mean there’s a reason the pros use it. Don’t be afraid to adjust these settings throughout your time playing because your personal preferences might change over time.

  • Camera presets are not really used, wide angle is the only one that’s playable.
  • Camera shake is something you’ll want to turn off… OFF!
  • Field of view you can put on 110, this gives you the most awareness.
  • Distance is something you can play around with but remember that the further you are from your car the less precision you have when hitting the ball. Being to close to your car will hurt your awareness though so try and keep this between 260 and 310. Also keep in mind that the Stiffness also affects the distance (more stiffness = closer to your car).
  • Height should be anywhere from 90 to 120. Height and Angle affect each other so if you have a high angle you can have a lower height.
  • A high Angle gives you a better view on what’s behind the ball but can affect your ability to hit the ball in the right spot. Especially when you start air dribbling you’ll find that a higher angle is not to your advantage. Most players keep this between -3 and -5.
  • Stiffness can be anything from 0 to 1. Most players use between 0.35 and 0.75 but there are some that have it all the way to 1. More stiffness means that your camera is almost fixed to your car, less stiffness and you’ll notice that on low speeds you are close to your car and when you’re boosting the camera moves a bit further away.
  • Swivel speed is how fast your camera moves when looking around and
  • Transition speed is how quickly the screen transitions between car and ball cam.
  • Invert swivel inverts the swivel direction on your camera controls.

Controls
Here you can adjust controller sensitivity and deadzone but it’s better to leave this on default until you’re a bit more comfortable with the game and then experiment with sensitivity and deadzone.

Controller bindings
In Rocket League you can change all the controls bindings you want. The default bindings are not ideal but configuration of the controls is purely based on your own preferences. What I have changed is Powerslide and Airrol on L1, boost on R1, jump on X and ballcam on square just to make sure I have access to everything simultaneously. I will link you to a list of all the pro controllers settings so you can find a logical setup for yourself

Interface
There are a bunch of interface options you can adjust here which are mostly self-explanatory. I like to increase the nameplate scale to improve my view on the opponents and force default team colors because I’m old and don’t like change ;)

Video
  • Consoles
Video settings on consoles are purely cosmetic and dependent on personal preference, they do not really impact how the game runs on the console. If you think you can do without the weather effects then disable them. If you want to improve your experience on your console then I recommend connecting it to a monitor and making sure the console is connected to the internet via a wired connection instead of wireless.
  • PC
Choosing the right video settings on PC can make a huge difference though and with all the different setups it's important to make sure Rocket League runs as smooth as possible. There is so much to say about this that I'll just share some really interesting links with you guys. This ranges from simply optimizing the in-game setting to changing the .ini file and Windows graphics settings.

Audio
You might not realize this but sound has an important role in this game. Hearing opponents boosting or jumping can help your decision making on the field. It might all be overwhelming in the beginning but soon enough you'll notice you are reacting on sound cues rather than visual cues. So play around with the settings and try to minimize the sounds that are only distracting or unnecessary.

Chat
Quick chat is the only way to communicate cross-platform but is also super useful to quickly inform teammates or compliment them on a play. You can set up different quick chats in settings and some of them are really helpful in-game: I got it!, All yours, Centering!, Thanks!, Nice one!. Others seem really positive like Wow! and What a Save! but you'll soon learn that they will be used just as often when you make a mistake. Don't worry about that because even after playing this game for 2000 hours you will still make mistakes and people will still be salty about this. So don't worry about mistakes, they are part of the game. Toxic behavior shouldn't be though so don't be afraid to disable chat.

Starting the play 3, 2, 1, Go! Now that you've got the right controls, video and camera settings you're ready to hit the Rocket League arenas and score some sick goals. First thing you'll want to do is just have some fun playing solo or with a team. Get a good feel for the game and score some bangers!
When you realize how much fun this game is and you want to climb the competitive ranks you'll want to improve as quickly as possible. The tutorials section below will help you out greatly, I've tried to create a list of the best content out there to help you improve quickly. Apart from the best settings and controls there is something far more important that you'll need: A positive mind set.
Before I leave you with all the great content below I want to give you one more bit of personal advice:
Be a good teammate and opponent.
We are all here to play a game and have fun, be positive, supportive and adjust to their playstyle as best you can. The more players do this the better the online experience will be and you're a part of that! Be forgiving of your own and other players' mistakes, you’ll all be making a lot of them so it’s going to be tiresome to get tilted all the time. Remember the human! They all have their own stuff to deal with, Rocket League might be a way for them to escape that so make it something where they feel welcome. We all get tilted sometimes and that is OK... it’s just in the way you handle that. When you realise you’re getting tilted take a step back and do something else, play a less tilting game or go outside and take a break. It will keep you from bombing your rank or getting banned.
If nothing else, be the teammate you’d want to play with. Good luck out there and see you on the field!

One last thing: There is no rule against demo'ing other players, it's a game mechanic and feel free to use it. Players will get mad and they'll get over it. Just don't dedicate your time just to demo players because you'll leave rotation and your net will be open, it's generally considered a bad tactic.
There is a important rule though: Rule 1
Don't you even dare think about going anywhere if you're locked in with another player. THIS IS THE WAY!
TLDR: Git gud NoOb!!

First things first: Search THE SCAMMER LIST before trading with anyone. This has been a highly requested post and I'm pleased to announce I've finally got round to it. Not much introduction is needed, so without further ado, here is
HOW NOT TO GET SCAMMED The following is a list of common scams, and how to counter them. This list will be updated as time goes on. If you know of any other scams, don't hesitate to pm me and I'll add them to the list.
1. Fake Middleman (different types) This has always been a popular scam since MM were around. In simple terms, the scammer has a friend they are working with. The friend owns an account with a name similar to a MM but not the exact same. For example, take the PS4 MM with the PSN account winkLaar04 (with a L if that wasn't obvious enough). A scammer could make the PSN winkIaar04 (with an I) and pretend to be the real MM. The scammer invites you and his friend to the lobby and before you know it, they've walked away with your Turtle Pigeon Topper or whatever it is you memers are manipulating /s nowadays.
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By A Fake MM: ALWAYS USE THE OFFICIAL MM LIST THAT IS ON THE SIDEBAR OF THE SUB AND ALSO THE FIRST STICKIED POST
DO NOT TRUST ANY SCREENSHOTS OF A LIST AS THEY ARE LIKELY EDITED. ALWAYS VERIFY THE CORRECT MM IS IN YOUR LOBBY BY PMING THEM ON REDDIT. All our MM will be happy to pm you confirming they are in your lobby.
"But Af," you say, "iT wAS geK WhO sCAmMEd mE"
No it wasn't.
NB: Scammers go to huge lengths to fake MM whether it's through screenshots, impersonator accounts, or even subs that impersonate ours (yes that's a thing). The MM call commands can be found at the top of the Middleman Call Megathread which is in the Anything Goes Thread. 2. Fake Reputation Another popular scam around right now involves the reputation of larger (and even smaller) traders on our sub. The scammer has several ways of stealing rep. One such way is making an impersonator Reddit account of someone with a lot of rep. Like with the previous scam, a similar looking name is used and the scammer sends you a link to the actual person's reputation claiming it is their own.
Another way of stealing rep is where the scammer makes a website to impersonate RLE and edits their name onto someone else's reputation. This is harder to spot as the scammer could have a completely different name to the person whose reputation they are stealing and still pass off that rep as their own.
READ THIS POST FOR A MORE IN DEPTH GUIDE ON FAKE REP How To Avoid Getting Scammed By Fake Rep: ALWAYS DOUBLE AND TRIPLE CHECK WHO IS MESSAGING YOU AND THE 'OWNER' OF THE REP THEY ARE SENDING TO YOU. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ACTUALLY ON https://www.reddit.com/RocketLeagueExchange AND NOT SOME DODGY THIRD PARTY WEBSITE. ONCE AGAIN NEVER TRUST SCREENSHOTS AS THEY ARE LIKELY EDITED. JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOME WASHED UP WANNABE YOUTUBER ON THEIR FRIENDS LIST, IT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE TRUSTWORTHY. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself when someone sends you rep pages...
Have they commented on your post or only PM'd you?

  • If they cant comment on your post, they are banned from the sub or their account is too new for reddit to allow them to post/comment. RED FLAG
  • If they have commented, how old is their account?
  • If new account; how do they have 1,000's of dollars worth of trades tracked that quickly? RED FLAG
Account history - just looking at someone's posts, do they have any posts/comments within the sub?
  • If yes; How frequent? How long ago? If they've never commented in the sub but are sending you rep pages that is a problem. RED FLAG
  • If no; why not? new account?
  • If new account; how do they have 1,000's of dollars worth of trades tracked that quickly? RED FLAG
Look at the URL of the rep that is sent, is it even reddit.com? Are you signed in or out of reddit after clicking their rep links? (This is harder to determine using the mobile app, i'd suggest taking an extra 2 minute to sign in using a browser on your mobile device and checking the rep links again)
  • If signed in, you are still within reddit.com's domain and the rep is legit. (STILL CHECK THE SPELLING OF THE ACCOUNT PM'ING YOU COMPARED TO THE SPELLING OF THE PERSON WHO'S REP IT IS)
  • If signed out, you were taken away from reddit.com's domain to some 3rd party site that they are using to mimic reddit.com and therefore the rep is fake. RED FLAG
If you are still unsure, modmail or PM a MM & copy/paste the rep links you were sent so we can test them. Even if you don't need to use us and it's to have a 2nd opinion on someone & their rep, we will still take a look to help determine if the rep is fake or the person making the offer is an impersonator.
3. The ColoCertification Switch This is a sly one. It involves a trader whose asking price for a painted item is slightly less than the going price. For example, say a painted item is 5,000 credits, they may ask for 3,000 credits and say it's a quicksell. When they get down to trade with you they will put up the item, let's say it's white in this case, and then wait for you to put your items. They will then ask if you have any adds and while you're distracted looking for the adds or telling them 'No way!' they will quickly swap out the white item for a grey one or unpainted certified one. The colors look quite similar so it is easy to assume the item is still white and accept the trade. The scammer can also rapidly select and unselect the white item then quickly select the grey item or certified item in place of the white item.
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By The Color Switch: PRESS SHOW DETAILS FOR THE ITEM THEY ARE TRADING WHEN THEY HAVE HIT ACCEPT. 'SHOW DETAILS' CAN BE FOUND WITH L3 ON PS4 AND LEFT STICK ON XBOX. IF THEY UNACCEPT THEN WAIT FOR THEM TO REACCEPT BEFORE LOOKING AT WHAT COLOR THE ITEM IS. IF THEY ARE DOING SOME DODGY SELECTING AND UNSELECTING, NOPE OUT OF THERE.
I have nothing to say about this one it's pretty self explanatory tbh. There are several ways of them distracting you, not just limited to the one I have said. Another common method is to send you a message through PSN/Xbox/Steam and while you open that, switch the item.
4. Certification Glitch As the name says, this scam involves the glitch whereby the certification of an item 'doesn't show'. The scammer claims the item they are selling is certified when it is not. They could send you a photoshopped screenshot/overlay etc, there was even some guy who added a cert with text on Snapchat...
Obviously the uncertified item is worth less than the certified item unless the cert is acrobat because lets be honest, who really wants an acrobat cert item?
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By The Certification Glitch: DO NOT TRUST SCREENSHOTS/STREAMS OF CERTS. THEY CAN BE EASILY FAKED. THE LONG SOLUTION TO THE CERT GLITCH IS TO GET THE PERSON YOU ARE TRADING WITH TO REMOVE THE ITEM FROM ALL PRESETS AND RESTART RL, HOWEVER THAT'S SO MUCH EFFORT. INSTEAD, ALWAYS USE A MIDDLEMAN (see point 1 on avoiding MM impersonators). IF SOMEONE IS ASKING FOR 100 CREDITS ON TOP OF A WHITE ZOMBA FOR A STRIKER WHITE ZOMBA THAT'S PROBABLY A SCAMMER OR SOME NOOB.
5. Rewards! & Phishing Links You've been watching the streams for 3 days in a row now. You don't even like Rocket League. You just want the free grand that comes with a Striker White Apex. You open RL and see an unpainted dominus decal. You don't even have the dominus dlc. This is you (I'm too lazy to edit the words Striker and White and Apex on that gif). In desperation you search Google for Rocket League rewards. You enter your login details onto some dodgy website that claims to get you offline rewards. >:O
Someone messages you or you message them and they say their prices changed and to look at prices at (insert garbage link here) where it asks you to sign in right away. There could also be any number of other crap excuses for them to give so be careful!
If you haven't yet realised, what I'm so eloquently saying is that this scam involves you entering your details onto a site that is not legit. It's a scammer owned site that takes your login details and they'll steal items from your account.
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By Fake Rewards/Phishing Websites: SET UP MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION ON YOUR ACCOUNTS!!! Check out this post by thatsOK - https://www.reddit.com/RocketLeagueExchange/comments/aggtz2/discussion_mods_can_we_please_get_a_sticky_about/
DON'T SIGN IN TO ANY WEBSITES OTHER THAN THE LEGIT REWARDS SITE or your platforms actual website; Steam, XBOX, PS4. EVEN IF THEY PROMISE YOU 10 STRIKER WHITE APEXES AND TICKETS TO JUSTIN BIEBER'S CONCERT DO NOT SIGN IN.
As you can tell I'm starting to get more relaxed and informal as I'm typing this so expect to see more hilarious gifs. Me as I'm typing this.
6. RLCS Decal Scam This is a lesser known one and also less popular. The RLCS decals do not show which car body they belong to when more than 8 items are in the trade window. The scams involves you, the naïve trader, wanting a RLCS decal for a certain car. Let's say you wanted a White RLCS Decal for the Octane as that is the most expensive. MMrs. Scammer comes along to trade with you and boy oh boy they are feeling generous today. Relevant anime gif for you weeaboos. Because the scammer is such a nice person they are willing to throw in a few items just for you. Can you believe it?? Get that discussion post ready because generous traders=free karma. Anyways, they offer exactly 8 items which are put in the trade window first. The 9th item is the decal. You can see where this is going. The item is definitely white not grey and you have checked yourself using point number 3. You press accept and once again you done messed up because you now have a White RLCS Decal for the Breakout Type S. Yes not even the regular Breakout but the Type S version ew.
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By The RLCS Decal Scam: IF SOMEONE IS WILLING TO ADD ITEMS OR OTHER ITEMS TELL THEM TO FIRST TRADE THE DECAL ONLY FOR YOUR END OF THE DEAL, THEN GIVE YOU THE ITEMS IN A SECOND TRADE FOR FREE. IF THEY REFUSE, LEAVE.
This is not very popular as RLCS decals aren't high in demand and not traded that often. Let's hope these new rewards bring decals that show the body they are intended for.
7. PayPal Invoice Now I'm not sure if this scam is still a thing any more but I'll go over it briefly anyways. The scammer will ask to trade with you and offer PayPal. They even want to go first and offer to send the PayPal in good faith. D:
What they actually do is send you a PayPal invoice and once you see the money money money and official email from PayPal you give the scammer your items. RIP.
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By PayPal Invoices: LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN INVOICE AND AN ACTUAL PAYMENT. YOUR BALANCE GOES UP AFTER A PAYMENT NOT DOWN. THE MONEY SHOULD BE IN YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT WITHOUT YOU HAVING TO DO ANYTHING (in rare cases you may have to accept payments).
No little anecdote with this one I'm afraid. Pretty self-explanatory.
8. DDOSing Not only is this one of the most scummy types of scam, it is also illegal. The scammer in this situation appears to do everything by the book. They do not call a fake MM, or try to pull a colour switch or anything else. Instead, they ask you to join a PSN/Xbox voice party with them. Through methods that I won't go through, they find out your IP address. Using this, they can 'shut down' your internet and also find out your general vicinity (ie the city you live in). Once they have your IP they threaten to shut down your internet unless you hand over all your items to them.
How to Avoid Getting DDOSed: DO NOT JOIN ANY PARTY ON PSN OR STEAM WITH PEOPLE THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW. FURTHERMORE, DO NOT CLICK ON ANY DODGY LINKS THAT A RANDOM PERSON HAS SENT YOU (whether that's through Reddit, PS messages etc). IF YOU ARE ON A DESKTOP YOU CAN HOVER OVER ANY LINKS PEOPLE HAVE SENT AND IT SHOULD SAY WHERE THE LINK LEADS TO. IF SOMEONE DOES FIND OUT YOUR IP ADDRESS, UNPLUG YOUR ROUTER FOR A FEW MINUTES. WHEN YOU SWITCH IT BACK ON YOUR IP SHOULD BE CHANGED. IF THE PROBLEMS PERSIST, CALL YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER AND EXPLAIN THE SITUATION.
As you can see there are no gifs/reference videos to go with this scam because it is very serious. Most of the people affected by this scam are kids with little knowledge of what is happening. It is, in my opinion, the most horrible type of scam around.
9. The Duplication Glitch Old School KSI for reference.
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By The Duplication Glitch: THERE IS NO DUPLICATION GLITCH.
I'm not being lazy, that's all there is to say.
10. Over 24 Items Due to Psyonix's blessings we are only allowed to trade 24 items in one go (this was introduced to counter one of the most popular scams that is no longer possible). However, this has led to a new type of scam whereby someone asks for over 24 items for an expensive item, such as TW Octane, and asks that you send 24 items first, then the rest for the TW Octane. This is not Canada. This is the internet. The scammer obviously will not give you a TW Octane for 30 random limited rocket pass items. Jeez.
How To Avoid Getting Scammed By The Item Limit: ALWAYS USE A MM FOR TRADES WHERE THEY ARE REQUIRED. DO NOT TRUST RANDOMS OFF RLGARAGE WHO PUT IN THEIR DESCRIPTIONS 24 ITEMS FIRST. IF SOMEONE DOES NOT WANT TO USE A MM FOR ANY REASON AND ASKS YOU TO GO FIRST, BACK OUT OF THAT TRADE STRAIGHT AWAY AND REPORT THEM TO US WITH THE APPROPRIATE EVIDENCE. WE WILL TAKE ACTION ACCORDINGLY.
Credit to SidewinderN7. I didn't want to put this scam on here as I believe anyone who falls for this kind of scam won't even know of this guide, but I was convinced otherwise ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
11. Fake Overpay This one's on the fence of being a scam or just abusing people's unintelligence/greed (they can be interchangeable :/). A scammer offers to trade something expensive for a niche (and inexpensive) item that you probably don't own. A few minutes after you promise you'll be the knight in shining armour, a random person you don't know has that item. Instead of connecting the two traders you spot an opportunity. You accept that this random wants an overpay and pay more than the item is worth (eg the scammer wants to trade their heatwave for a turtle plunger, his friend has a Turtle Plunger for 500 credits and you have an innocent mind and believe in the Tooth Fairy). Lo and behold, the original trader does a Pablo Escobar and is nowhere to be found and you've paid 500 credits for a Turtle Plunger.
How To Avoid Falling For The Fake Overpay: INSTEAD OF RUSHING INTO THE TRADE THINK ABOUT THINGS. PUT SOME FOCUS MUSIC ON SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO LATER CRY TO THAT ONE EMOTIONAL SONG. IF THEY HAVE A HEATWAVE WOULD THEY REALLY WANT A TURTLE CERT PLUNGER?? WOULD THEY???
That song may hit some of you in the feels.
That concludes my guide on how not to get scammed folks. This guide will be updated if necessary. Let me know if I have missed any scams and I'll do my best to find the relevant gifs/videos. If you feel emotionally scarred by that last video, just know it gets better. You'll find another Korean internet wife.
Keep an eye out for more guides in the future and be sure to let me or any of the other mods know if you need a guide for anything else.
Once again the most important thing is to do a quick search of The Global Scam List. Finally, if it's too good to be true it probably is. Be safe, and happy trading!

2020.09.22 07:29 Mjcgw 23 among us tips and tricks I’ve gathered from my personal play style and time spent playing the game (from almost 400 games)
